Poker is played with the standard 52 card deck,and the rank of the cards goes in order from the highest to the lowest (Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10....), with Ace acting as the highest and the lowest. In poker the 4 suits, spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs do matter, but they are not ranked higher or lower.
Players start off with an “ante” a small bet before the cards are dealt, and after they are dealt the real betting starts. Players place their bets into the “pot” in the middle of the table (counterclockwise). Players either bet or check (starting with the player of the highest ranking), if he “checks” the decision will go on to the next player, and if they bet then the real betting begins.
Players choose to either, “call,” match the bet, “raise,” match the bet and add more, or “fold,” to drop out of the round and not play.
Once there are no more raises and all the cards are dealt the round is over. Everyone will show their cards and the highest hand wins. |
